About this Piece:
Every June, the village of Ephraim lights massive bonfires along the shoreline to celebrate Fyr Bal—the burning of the ‘Winter Witch’ and the arrival of summer. I’ve stood on that rocky edge more times than I can count, watching flames stretch into the night sky, surrounded by families, music, and the glow of firelight on the water.
That memory inspired Ember Bloom. The black background is the shoreline sky—rich, endless, and just beginning to cool. The orange, red, and gold strokes are flames caught mid-dance, while the pink and violet tones reflect the energy in the crowd, the laughter, and the flicker of sparklers in kids’ hands.
This piece isn’t subtle. It’s celebration and movement. It’s what it feels like to stand at the edge of Green Bay, watching the past burn away and something new rise up from the embers.
