About this Piece:
This piece was inspired by a late spring walk through the cherry orchards just south of Sister Bay. The trees were in full bloom—row after row of blossoms, soft white overhead, but the real color was underfoot. Tulips and wildflowers pushing through, shadows shifting across the grass, and that electric contrast of green fields against a still-cool sky.
I wanted to capture that layering—not just of color, but of feeling. Each band in Orchard Stack reflects a different part of that memory: the purples and magentas for early blooms, the gold and green for sun through leaves, the deep reds and blues for the cool air and damp soil. The vertical form felt right for this one—like a young tree just starting to stretch.
There’s structure here, but also movement. Just like those rows of trees: planted with precision, but completely alive.
